Is your company sales tax-exempt?

K2 Scientific wants to make it easy for you to purchase via our online store. Making a tax-exempt purchase requires a few extra steps to ensure you can checkout tax-free.

Tax-exempt customers must have a current and approved tax-exempt certificate on file. We have everything you need in our online portal to complete the process.  You will need a K2 Scientific online account to complete the required paperwork.

Start by creating an online account

  • Click on My Account
  • Click Create New Customer
  • Fill the Required Information Fields
  • Click Create an Account

Before making a purchase, complete the following steps:

  • Log into your account and click on tax certificates. It is the last item in the menu on the left side of the My Account page.
  • Click add exemption and follow the on-screen prompts to generate a new sales tax-exempt certificate.
    • If your pre-populated tax information is incorrect, please call or email our accounting department for assistance
    • +1.800.218.7613 Option 3
    • accounting@k2sci.com
  • The K2 Scientific Accounting Department must validate your certificate before your purchase is exempt from tax. This is typically completed within 1-2 business hours from the time of your submission.

If you cannot wait for the K2 Scientific Accounting Department to validate your certificate, you may still place the order; however, sales tax will be charged where applicable. Our accounting department can issue a new order without sales tax once your certificate is approved, or you can request a sales tax refund from the state in question.

The following information may help you determine if you are eligible for a tax-free purchase.

Resellers:

If you are not the end consumer of a taxable good, they may make the purchase tax-free. It is up to the buyer to provide the necessary paperwork to verify they are a reseller. As a seller, we are expected to get this documentation and keep it on file in a sales tax audit.

Non-Profits:

It is common for people to think non-profit organizations are exempt from sales tax on all purchases. Not true. What is true is that for certain sales, sales tax is waived for transactions relating to the charity’s “charitable mission.” Again, the non-profit organization must provide the necessary paperwork verifying their status. It is up to the seller to manage this paperwork.
